SALEM, Ore. (KATU) — Oregon will remain in the current time format of switching between daylight saving and standard time for the foreseeable future.
Senate Bill 1548which would have moved Oregon to permanent standard time will not be considered in the Oregon House.
A spokesperson for House Speaker Dan Rayfield sent KATU a statement Wednesday explaining why the bill is being shelved.
“We received the bill later than we would usually take on Senate policy bills since it got referred back to committee and the senate had to take a second vote before making it over here. Given the shortened timeline and the queue of critical bills we’re still working through, we aren’t able to give enough time to considering the merits of the bill in the time we have left this session.”
The bill had bipartisan support and would have put Oregon on permanent standard time if California and Washington followed suit within 10 years.
The Oregon Legislature is in a short session and is scheduled to come to an end on Sunday, but there is a possibility it ends on Friday, according to sources at the Oregon Capitol.
The next possible session to debate the topic would be in January 2025.
