PARMA, Idaho -- A wanted Oregon man with multiple warrants had a standoff with Idaho SWAT teams on Friday after a high speed chase through Parma City, Parma Police Department said.
The incident started at around 3:40 p.m. Friday when officers from the High Desert Drug Task Force in Payette and Malheur Counties tried to pull over 24-year-old Adan William Oviedo.
Oviedo, a fugitive from Nyssa, Ore., was wanted on multiple felony warrants. Police also got tips that Oviedo had some stolen firearms in his possesion.
PPD officials said that Oviedo tried to lose the pursuing officers by driving through fields and Parma City's streets, reaching speeds over 50 miles per hour.
Oviedo stopped his vehicle and ran from the police on foot into the 7th and E Fisk Ave. neighborhood. He then barricaded himself inside a trailer off of Fisk.
Officers from Parma, Payette, Ontario and Wilder cities, Payette and Canyon County Sheriff's Offices and the Idaho State Police set up a perimeter and evacuated people from the area.
Oviedo surrendered after the Canyon County SWAT team was called to the scene of the standoff.
He was taken to the West Valley emergency room for a medical evaluation before he was lodged at the CCSO jail on multiple charges including eluding arrest and fugitive from justice. Officials said that other charges could be added after searching Oviedo's property.
