David Goffin will begin his French Open 2021 campaign against Italian teenager Lorenzo Musetti. The Belgian’s best run so far at the Grand Slam came in 2016 when he made it till the quarter-finals. He was shocked in the first round by another Italian teenager, Jannik Sinner last year in the 2020 French Open. He has 18-10 record in the Grand Slam.
He will participate in his 5th Clay tournament of the season with his best run coming at the Monte Carlo Masters 2021 where he reached the quarter-finals. He last played at the ATP Lyon Open 2021 from where he comes to Paris.
Lorenzo Musetti will make his debut at this year’s French Open as the 19-year old qualifies into the main draw directly through his rank. This will be his first Grand Slam tournament the teenager has qualified for after having been knocked out in the qualifying stages of the Australian Open 2020.
This will be his 8th tournament on Clay this season. While he could not go much further in the Masters tournament on Clay, he was able to reach the semi-finals at the ATP Lyon Open 2021 and the quarter-finals of the ATP Cagliari Open 2021.

Goffin comes to the Roland Garros with a 5-4 record on Clay for the season and has displayed some good bits of tennis in the process. However, his injury mid-match in his Round of 16 clash at the Barcelona Open 2021 has resulted in sort of a dip in his form and that can be a factor of concern for the 13th seed as he looks to overcome his poor form since the injury.
Musetti comes in with a 14-10 record on Clay as he had started the season at the Challenger tournaments this year and has plenty of match practice. He will come in with nothing to lose as he makes his debut and can cause an upset against the struggling Belgian.
