The Bench Lake Fire continues to grow as fire crews work to set perimeter lines and protect Redfish Lodge.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, the Bench Lake Fire is estimated to have grown to 150 acres so far, an infrared flight will take place when conditions allow to give a more accurate look at the size of the fire.

Gusty conditions on Saturday increased fire activity and allowed for growth. Currently, there are 186 fire personnel working to contain the fire with additional resources in route to help with full fire suppression.

The fire started Thursday afternoon and Redfish Lodge and the surrounding area were evacuated due to its proximity to the fire and to allow aircraft unobstructed access to the water as they work to limit the fire's growth.

Fire engines are in place on the north side of the lake to protect the lodge and other structures in the area.

Hot Shot Crews are being positioned where they can directly engage the fire by digging hand lines and using natural features such as rock screens to start to contain the fire perimeter.

Ground crews are using extreme caution because of the hazards presented by dead and diseased trees in the area.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
